WESTERN BUREAU:
MT ALVERNIA Prep of Montego Bay won their seventh straight Western Prep Schools Sports Association's track and field championships which was held at the Montego Bay Sports Complex earlier this week.
The Sean Rhooms-coached team amassed 186 points to finish ahead of Montego Bay and Whitehall Prep Schools who were tied on 168. St. James, with 133, and Hemmingway, with 116.5, rounded out the top five.
The other schools scoring points were Frome - 96, Cornwall - 74, Supreme - 64, Teamwork - 50, Hosanna - 45, St. Mary - 21, Edwards - 9 and Eber - 3.5. Faith Prep, which failed to score, and Edwards left the meet early after morning showers doused the venue. The rain also prevented the running of a number of events as well as the opening ceremonies and medal presentations.
Fourteen schools took part in the one-day meet which marked the first time the complex was being used for an athletic event.
Shaughnavon DaSousa of MoBay Prep and Danique Smith of Supreme emerged overall champions for the Boys and Girls sections while also capturing Class honours with 18 points each.
Smith won the Girls' Class One while DaSouza won the Boys' Class Three.
Romano Grandison of Whitehall was the Boys' Class One champion while St. James' Jerome Silvera won in Class Two.
Frome Prep's Daniquea Bacchas was the Girls' Class Two champion with St. James Prep's Shanice Barrett winning Class Three.
