KnightMINISTER OF Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade K.D. Knight left the island yesterday for Guyana where he will chair the 13th Council for Trade and Economic Development Meeting.
Decisions leading to the continued implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are expected to be made at this meeting. One area of the Single Market and Economy on which there will be a great deal of focus is that of the removal of restrictions for the provision of services in the community. Member States of the community have already identified the barriers for the provision of services and have agreed on a timetable for re-moving those barriers. Regional governments have committed to remove all restrictions by 2005.
Other agenda items include the Regional Transformation Programme for Agriculture, the CARICOM Rice Industry, the Regional Programme for Food Security, the Regional Natural Disaster Management Strategy, External Economic and Trade Relations, the Common External Tariff (CET) and Develop-ment of Regional Aviation Safety and Security.
Mr. Knight is accompanied by other government officials and a representative of the Jamaica Manufact-urers' Association.
He returns to the island May 29.
