THE EDITOR, Sir:
KINDLY ALLOW me to use this medium to express my displeasure at most of the talk-show hosts on the various radio stations. Can I ask them to stop perpetuating the problem of crime, violence, negativism, mistrust and political assassination on the air, bearing in mind that persons of various age, and persons who just want a reason or an excuse to indulge in their negative acts, are listening!
At a time in our country when we all need to be pulling on national unity, the majority of the hosts are on the air grinding their own, and those of their friends' selfish and brutal political and other axes.
I have been switching my radio dial from one station to another looking for positive discussion on issues that can benefit Jamaica and its people, for intelligent suggestions for the upliftment of the nation as a whole, and all I can hear 24/7 are the talk-show hosts bickering and building more strife and misery.
Most of the hosts have become so short-tempered, no, hot-tempered and hoggish. Is the display of proper manners and behaviour, especially in public, reserved for children, and not for them?
I believe they are now taking the decent listening public for granted and this must stop. I am willing to embrace change, but if this is the best form of change in that arena, then forget it.
Talk-show hosts, lighten our burdens, do not compound them!
I am, etc.,
