Rally around the WI cricket captain

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE GAME of cricket in the West Indies is becoming very interesting. King Carl Hooper is really a remarkable captain. His performance against India in the Test series is commendable. But I must say that the man of the moment is Shivarine Chanderpaul. He is a gem. His impeccable average knock in the series is 140 runs. This enabled him to become the Man of the Series.

I am more than enthused with Brian Lara's progress. I must applaud him on his courageous knock of 34 runs in the fifth and final Test. I am betting on him to become the batsman he can be. The best in the world.

I hope the young and energetic Sarwan, the flexible Chris Gayle, the indomitable Wavell Hinds and the Hurdy Dudley Jacobs will rally around the King to bring back the fine, lustre in West Indian Cricket.

I am, etc.,

JOHN CAMPBELL
