Jamaican tops graduating class at Howard University

Dr. Marc Wright

LESS THAN two months after suffering a tragic loss, Marc Wright graduated as the most decorated member of his class at the Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wright, 27, is the son of Rema Wright and slain businessman Gladstone "Gladdy" Wright, who was killed by gunmen March 15 at his wholesale liquor store on Barbican Road, St. Andrew.

At the college's Honours and Awards Programme on May 10, Dr. Wright was one of only six students of the college granted alumni membership in the National Dental Honours Society. Dr. Wright also received seven other awards, the most garnered by anyone in his class, including the Dean's Award - a plaque plus US$1,000 - and the National Dental Association Award, given to a senior student showing outstanding proficiency in general dentistry.

For the next two years, Dr. Wright will pursue a postgraduate degree in orthodontics at Howard University. Before enrolling at Howard, Dr. Wright attended Wolmer's Boys' School in Kingston and earned a bachelor's degree with honours from the University of the West Indies (UWI).
