Truth-telling and politicians

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CONCERNING THE Gleaner May 29, 2002. Mr. Delroy Chuck says the nation needs hope but it also needs truth, honesty and frankness. My problem with Mr. Chuck is that he does not say that all Opposition politicians should not only oppose for the sake of being in opposition but they should do what Mr. Winston Churchill did. He was frank with the British and he told them - "I can promise you nothing but blood and sweat."

The trouble with Mr. Chuck and all of us is, we want others to be truthful while we can say and make impossible promises to the poor people of Jamaica. We need leaders to tell the people we can offer or promise you nothing but hard work, unity, love, peace etc. to build back our country spiritually and economically. With these good intentions God will help us.

May God help us to unite for the common good of our country.

I am, etc.,

A. A. WHITE
