SafaTHE BODY of 28-year-old Safa Asontuwa, a self-proclaimed psychic, was found in a gully off the main road leading to Cavaliers, St. Andrew, yesterday afternoon.
According to the police, Safa had been missing from his residence in Mount Joy, Old Stony Hill Road, St. Andrew, since Monday night. This was reported to the police yesterday morning by a relative.
Deputy Superintendent Wrenford Robinson, the Crime Officer for St. Andrew North, said Safa's body was positively identified by a number of people who knew him.
Clad in a grey track suit bottom, his body had what appeared to be deep knife wounds to the forehead and more stab wounds to the left hand.
"A piece of electric cord was tied around him and there were bruises to his body, which suggested he was beaten before he was killed," said Corporal Troy Anderson of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN).
Further reports are that following an operation in the area yesterday, a motor vehicle belonging to Safa was found in the possession of another man, a matter which is being probed by investigators. The police said the suspect was taken into custody.
The Gleaner understands that prior to his death, Safa had received a number of threats from factions in the community. It is alleged he had been accused of verbally abusing residents in the area.
Safa came to prominence in 1998 doing a radio programme on KLAS in which he offered advice to listeners, especially those who were curious about their future and personal relationships.
He subsequently did a weekly column in The Gleaner's Flair Magazine. He later did a stint with Television Jamaica (TVJ), hosting a programme on Wednesday nights telling callers about their future.
