JLP wants more on Thwaites

THE OPPOSITION Jamaica Labour (JLP) has called on the Government to disclose, in full, its business dealings with Ronald Thwaites, attorney-at-law and former PNP Member of Parliament for Central Kingston.

Mr. Thwaites, who resigned on Monday as MP over allegations of financial impropriety, is the principal in the law firm Daly, Thwaites and Co.

On Tuesday, Abe Dab-doub (JLP Northeast St Catherine) tabled a private member's motion seeking "full and complete" investigation into all transactions between Mr. Thwaites or his law firm between the Government or any of its agencies, as well as between Mr. Thwaites and the Postal Corporation of Jamaica. The motion called for a report of the findings to be tabled in the House.

Mr. Thwaites resigned following an investigation by a three-member commission appointed by PNP President, Prime Minister Patterson.

Meanwhile, Andrew Holness, JLP spokesman on Local Government, served notice he will ask Water and Housing Minister, Donald Buchanan, questions relating to Mr. Thwaites dealings with Operation PRIDE projects.

He wants to know whether Daly, Thwaites and Co. are handling any PRIDE projects on behalf of the Government or its agencies, or on behalf of any provident society. He has requested details of the amounts charged by Mr. Thwaites, among others.
