HOST KINGSTON cruised to their second consecutive win in the Capital and Credit Merchant Bank All-island one-day cricket competition, easily beating last year's beaten finalists, Manchester, by 139 runs in their third round game at Sabina Park yesterday.
Meanwhile, in a round dominated by batsmen, two centuries were scored. Former West Indies batsman Leon Garrick led the way for St. Ann with a attacking 118, which included 14 fours and a six off 113 deliveries against Boys' Town at Maxfield Park, while schoolboy St. Clair Searchwell belted 112 off 119 deliveries with 10 fours and four sixes for Portland against hosts Melbourne in a losing effort.
AT SABINA PARK: Scores: Kingston 320 for five off 50 overs, Manchester 181 all out.
Kingston, after winning the toss and electing to bat, took control from the start against Manchester who never looked like they could stop the home team's run flow.
Kingston got off the a flying start with Shane Brooks and Nicholas Austin posting 100 off the first 15 overs. The two, put on 140 for the first wicket before Austin departed trying to pull a Hue Blackwood delivery over mid-wicket only to be caught by Lancelot Warren at mid-off for 51.
Brooks soon followed going for a quick single and being found short of his ground for a well-played 83, a knock which included 14x4s off 84 deliveries.
At that stage, at 158 for two, The crease was taken over by former Manchester players Matthew Sinclair and Ricardo Powell. The two featured in a third wicket partnership of 99 with Powell the more dominant, hitting his former teammates to all parts of the Sabina Park outfield.
However, trying to attack too many deliveries, the former West Indies hard-hitting batsman was caught behind by wicketkeeper Gary Graham for 80, an innings which included 11 fours and two sixes from just 50 balls.
With time running out, Kingston lost Raymond Ferguson (28) and Nehemiah Perry (five), leaving Sinclair unbeaten on 49.
When the visitors replied, they found the bowling of leg-spinner Kerry Scott, 3-37 off 10 overs, pacers Marvin McKain, 3-52, and Andrew Richardson, 2-34, too hot to handle.
Only Corey Phillips (40), Howard Jamison (33) and Orville Pennant (30) made any useful contributions.
