THE POLICE say they have intensified their search for Norris Brown, nicknamed "Taliban", of Mount Ogle, Lawrence Tavern, St. Andrew, following yesterday morning's protest by residents and bus operators in the area who accused him of terrorising them.
Mr. Brown is of light brown complexion, medium build and about 5 feet or 152.4 centimetres tall, the police say.
Joined by 100 members of the public, 60 operators of public passenger vehicles demonstrated in Lawrence Tavern over the shooting and injuring of a bus conductor, during a hold-up in Mount Ogle on Monday night.
The police later told The Gleaner they have issued 10 arrest warrants for Mr. Brown, whom protesters accused of not only shooting the conductor but of terrorising operators of public passenger vehicles along the route.
The furious protesters who gathered from as early as 9 o'clock, dispersed after being addressed by an officer from the Constant Spring police station but not before expressing solidarity with the injured conductor and venting their anger at "Taliban", who they said had been demanding up to $2,000 for "safe passage" from each public passenger vehicle operator.
According to police reports, about 7.45 p.m. on Monday, a bus plying the downtown Kingston-to Temple Hall route stopped to let off passengers in the Mount Ogle community.
A man with shotgun entered the bus and robbed the 37-year-old driver and 30-year-old conductor of a $6,000- old ring and an undetermined sum of money.
On leaving the bus, the gunman opened fire wounding the conductor in the chest. The conductor was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
The police said the names of the driver and conductor were being withheld for security reasons.
