A blatant rip-off

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an open letter to Digicel, Consumer Affairs, the consumers, as well as the office under which GCT falls.

Why is it that I am being ripped off by agents who sell the Digicel phone cards?

When I purchase the $100 card, I am charged $20 for GCT, when, in fact, GCT should be $15. For the $300 card I pay $50 for GCT, instead of $45. This is a blatant rip-off not only to myself, but other consumers as well. The law stipulates that GCT is 15 per cent. These people are flouting the law, with impunity, by charging an extra $5.

We the consumers have enough on our plate. We are taxed left, right and centre by the Government. It is therefore another blow to us on our already bruised body for businesses/agents to be ripping us off, all in the name of GCT.

To the powers that be can you do something please?

I am, etc.,

A. LAWRENCE

St. Catherine
