Athletes made Jamaica proud

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MY HEART was young and gay today as I accepted the wonderful gifts of those young Jamaicans performing at the World Junior Games.

To you all I say a million thanks for keeping our flag flying and was it not lovely to hear our National Anthem.

We do not seem to realise how wonderful a country Jamaica is - we produce so many talented individuals and today (Sunday) the icing was put on the cake of our 40th anniversary of Independence. To all you youngsters who made this possible I beg of you to continue shining and above all to concentrate on getting a good education. This is extremely important in today's world.

Although you are all so young your country requires of you that you be the 'role model' for the other youngsters out there. At all times show them how important it is to stay in the straight and narrow path, honouring your parents and your country. Remember at all times to give back something to your country.

You have brought joy to Jamaica today and we thank you most sincerely. May the good Lord be with you always. Much love.

I am, etc.,

BARBARA COVER
