Gov't pensioner wants more money

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an open letter to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.

I am writing on behalf of Government pensioners currently receiving pensions far below the sum of $20,000 per month (which is the amount being paid to 'street persons,' following a court order).

We who retired prior to 1995 after giving 34 years and more of the highest quality service to the various government departments are literally starving on the meagre pension we now receive.

Light, water, land tax, telephone, medical bills and food, to name the basic essentials, are constantly increased beyond our ability to pay for them; but the pensions remain worthless, unable to cope with the cost of living expenses. We need to be considered now for a 100 per cent increase per month.

Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Finance Minister please increase these paltry monthly pensions.

The court genuinely recognised that no human being could subsist on less than $20,000 per month. I would like to believe that you do not categorise us as being less than 'human beings.'

I am, etc.,

DISTRESSED GOVT PENSIONER

Kingston 10
