JAMAICA finished fourth in both the boys' and girls' divisions of the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships that ended at the Liguanea Club on Saturday.
Despite being beaten 3-2 by Trinidad & Tobago, the result was an improvement for the girls who finished fifth last year.
Not so for the boys who were also beaten 3-2, but by Venezuela. They had placed third last year.
Said tournament director John Bullock in giving an overview of the event: "The tournament was very good. We had all nine countries participating and about 120 players taking part. There were many first timers and they all did well.
"The improvement in the overall standard of play was evident and this augurs well for the future of the sport. The coaches and support groups are to be commended."
Meanwhile, Barbados defeated Guyana 4-1 to retain the boys' title. It was the reverse in the girls' final as Guyana upstaged defending champions Barbados 4-1.
Venezuela took third in the boys' section while Bermuda finished fifth, Trinidad & Tobago sixth, Cayman seventh, Bahamas eighth and the OECS ninth.
The Trinidadian girls placed third, followed by Jamaica, Bermuda, OECS, Cayman and the Bahamas.
Under-13 champion Bryant Cumberbatch moved into the under-15 category this year and won the crown.
Cayman's Chantelle Fernandes fought valiantly to win the under-15 girls' title.
