Bailey MONTEGONIAN BUSINESSMAN Lee Bailey was last Thursday elected chairman of the newly-established Chapter of the Shipping Association of Jamaica in Montego Bay.
Mr. Bailey, chairman of Caribbean Cruise Shipping (CCS) Limited, who has been championing the cause for the development of cruise shipping in Jamaica for several years, is expected to lead the Chapter through its formative stages over the next couple of months.
The election took place at the inaugural meeting of the Chapter at the Wexford Court Hotel in MoBay. Other officers are Cheryl Kelly of Turnel Shipping -- Vice Chairman, and Audrey Hepburn of Lannaman & Morris Shipping Limited, Secretary.
The new chairman said while his immediate priority is to educate the chapters' members about the role of the SAJ and its Kingston based operations, he anticipates resolving pressing issues as it relates to encouraging more container ships at MoBay and improvement of the infrastructure at the Port. Mr. Bailey, former President of the MoBay Chamber of Commerce, currently serves on the Jamaica Cruise Shipping Council in an advisory capacity.
The Montego Bay Chapter was officially launched by Transport and Works Minister, Hon. Robert Pickersgill in June, "to provide cohesive and integrated approach" to address matters affecting operators in the second city. These issues involve infrastructural development, port security, labour matters, training, lobbying and information technology.
The SAJ MoBay Secretariat is based at the Cruise Terminal Building, Montego Bay Freeport, Montego Bay; telephone 979-8437 or 684-9890, facsimile 684-9889.
