Balaclava,Santa Cruz police without vehicles

BLACK RIVER:

AT LEAST TWO police stations in St. Elizabeth - Balaclava and Santa Cruz are without the services of properly functioning vehicles.

Superintendent in charge of operations in the parish, Delroy Bernard confirmed that for the past month and a half the Balaclava police station has been without a service unit because the vehicle assigned to the station was taken to the garage for repairs. In the case of Santa Cruz he said only one unit was at the station.

"We are trying our best to get the vehicles out of the garage because we know the important role they played at the police stations," Mr. Bernard said. Adding that "the Siloah police station was serving as a back up to Balaclava in case of emergency".

However checks with the Bull Savannah police station revealed that the same situation exists at that station as there is only one unit at the facility and it hardly works.

The area that we serve is a big one and our job has been made very difficult at the station without service vehicle, " said one inspector at the station.

Superintendent Bernard also explained that the authorities were aware of the problem of vehicle shortage at some of the stations in the division and gave an assurance that everything was being done to correct the problem.
