Sumfest and indecent language

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WORRIES me how much energy and money Jamaican authorities waste on simple matters.

I cannot understand how an artiste can be charged for use of indecent language at a paid event. It seems very stupid to me. When people pay their money to see an artiste they know what to expect. That's why they go in the first place!

Charging an artiste for bringing a show to a premature end or encouraging violence, that I can understand. An artiste was charged for saying something about the Prime Minister, how ridiculous. Let the Prime Minister sue the individual if it's that bad. The Sumfest organisers said they were cleaning up the show so everyone could enjoy it, including children. I don't think an all-night reggae show is for children.

Jamaicans need to get there priorities straight. Jamaica is full of crime and corrupt practices and I think this is where the energy should be directed.

I think we should replace that law that makes it possible to charge someone for cursing and make buying a vote illegal.

I am etc.,
