Denbigh Show opens tomorrow

WESTERN BUREAU:

WHEN THE largest agricultural and industrial show in the entire Caribbean, dubbed Denbigh Agri-Industrial Show 2002, opens its gate tomorrow morning, the organising body, the Jamaica Agricultural Society, will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the annual event.

Under the theme 'Meeting the Global Challenge through Technology in Agriculture', this year's Denbigh Show, according to JAS, will go all out in promoting the best in local agriculture. The show will feature outstanding livestock, agricultural and horticultural exhibits from all 14 parishes in Jamaica.

Over the years, several new features and competition are added which are now prominent features of the show. This commemorative show will have a Science & Technology focus, a Magnificent Meat innovation, there will be a Farmers Market and a Vendors Arcade, Seminars and Workshops, the Financial Institution will be on hand to assist farmers and there will be the Youth in Agriculture and 4-H Club National Achievement Day, both youth events on Monday. Traditional features like the National Farm Queen, Young Farmers and National Champion Farmers competition will be among the usual attraction. Local and foreign dignitaries, including the Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke, Prime Minister P. J. Patterson, and the president of the Republic of Guyana, Bharat Jagdeo will attend the show.

Live musical entertainment will begin on Sunday with the gospel concert, followed by Teens Showcase and climax with a big Independent Concert featuring some of the best in local entertainment.
