St Thomas Coffee Co-op pays out millions

MORANT BAY, St. Thomas:

THE ST. Thomas Coffee Co-operative Society has paid out $34 million to some 2,000 farmers in the parish, according to Oneil Blake, the society's president.

Mr. Blake said the money represented payment of $1,900 per box for cherry coffee.

He said payment was late this year because of delay in shipping as well as the May flood rains. However, he said everything would be done in future to ensure the money was paid on time.

The Blue Mountain Coffee Corporation provides coffee for export to Japan and also for the Jamaican market.
