14-man squad named for ICC Trophy

Gayle

ST.JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC:

THE WEST INDIES selectors yesterday named a predictable 14-member squad to participate in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy competition in Sri Lanka next month.

The West Indies had hoped to use the imminent Red Stripe Bowl tournament to guide selection for the tournament, but the ICC set an August 12 deadline for submitting teams.

As a result, the squad is largely made up of players who appeared in the 2002 Cable and Wireless home series against India and New Zealand, with Runako Morton and Mahendra Nagamootoo returning to international duty.

With back-to-back tours to India and Bangladesh to follow the ICC Champions Trophy, players not selected for Sri Lanka will have a chance to impress the selectors during the Red Stripe Bowl, for the India/Bangladesh trip.

Squad: Carl Hooper (captain), Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ryan Hinds, Runako Morton, Ridley Jacobs, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Mervyn Dillon, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore, Cameron Cuffy.
