
JAMAICAN ACTOR Oliver Samuels has been recognised and awarded by the Antiguan Junior Chamber for being a positive role model to young people all over the world.
According to a release received by The Gleaner, Mr. Samuels is one of many persons in the Caribbean who has helped in 'cultivating good morals, personalities, and positive guidance for young people'. Oliver Samuels was one of three persons who received this inaugural award. The other two persons are renowned batsman and head of selection for West Indies cricket, Sir Vivian Richards, and a centenarian woman, whose birth certificate showed she has turned 127 years old.
The awards ceremony took place at the Annual Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show, held on August 3, alongside the island's summer festival, entitled 'Antigua Carnival'. Mr. Samuels told The Gleaner last week that "I feel very humble, I did not know that people held me in such high esteem".
The actor was provided with complimentary air fare and hotel accommodation. Limousine-style ground travel and security services completed the package.
Mr. Samuels described his four-day trip as being synonymous with royal treatment. "They really laid out the red carpet. This was complemented by Sandals Antigua, that hosted me quite well. The locals were fantastic," said a pleased Mr. Samuels.
