Santokie... three for 30 and Findlay (right)... scored 44. - File JAMAICA'S HOPES of at least one of the two West Indies Under-19 cricket titles were dashed yesterday after they lost their semi-final of the limited-overs competition to Guyana by four wickets at Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground, UWI, Mona.
Meanwhile, the Windward Islands shocked three-day champions Barbados in the other semi-final at Kensington Park. Guyana and Windward Islands will meet in tomorrow's final at Melbourne Oval starting at 10:00 a.m.
At UWI, in a poor batting display, Jamaica made 126 off 38.4 overs and Guyana comfortably reached 127 for six in 36.3 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Jamaica struggled from the start as they lost wickets regularly and at one stage were reeling at 80 for six.
Simon Jackson, four, Xavier Marshall, who started in an attacking style, 20, Chadwick Walton, one, Vinroy Crooks, eight, Howard Powell, 11, and St. Clair Searchwell, two, failed against Derron Peters (2-16), Zaheer Mohammed (2-20) and Quacy Malty (1-30).
However, playing another solid innings, skipper Shawn Findlay (44, 1x4) and Shaniel Francis (10) added 31 runs for the seventh wicket, which saved Jamaica from total embarrassment.
When the two went within nine runs, Guyana, aided by spinner Zaheer Saffie three for 15 off 4.4 overs, wrapped up the tail.
Roopnarine Ramgobin (six) and Moshin Perkhan (33) got the Guyanese on their way as they put on 28 for the first wicket before Ramgobin fell to Marshall (1-24).
Despite, the loss of several middle-order wickets, Guyana never looked in danger as they reached their target with more then 12 overs to spare.
Assad Fudadin (30) and Delbert Hicks (18 not out) were the other batsmen to reach double figures against Krishmar Santokie's three for 30 off 7.3 overs.
