Jamaica take 2-0 lead in best-of-three series

NEW YORK:

A TEAM comprising former national volleyballers clinched its best-of-three series against an International side on Wednesday night at the Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Queens, New York.

The Jamaicans fought back to down the Internationals 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-10 and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.

The team of captain, Donovan Buckle, Collin Henry, David Jack, Dean Robinson, Eugene Sutherland, Ricardo Wray and Lynford Foreman pulled off the tense victory in front a packed gym.

According to Buckle, "it was the consistent blocking of Jack which made it easy in the end to help the team to victory".

The competition will now be held annually "and there is the possibility of a series being hosted in Jamaica", Buckle said.

The team will now focus on a Six Pack Beach Tournament which starts tomorrow in New Jersey August 24 and 25 and will pit the Jamaicans against players form across the United States for maximum prizemoney of US$15,000.

Buckle and Wray who were sixth at a beach tournament in Long Island last week and collected US$500 are hoping to better their position in this weekend's games.
