Audley Boyd, Staff ReporterFOOTBALL AND not cricket will take centre stage at Sabina Park this afternoon when legendary footballers from Jamaica and English Premiership side Liverpool headline a two-game showcase to signal Wray and Nephew's involvement as new sponsors of the local Premier League at 2:30 p.m.
Following the 20-minutes-a-half clash between the 'oldies', some of the nation's best local players will take part in an All Stars battle between a team from the West and a team from the East which will start at 3:30.
The main attraction however will be provided by the Liverpool legends who include Jamaica-born John Barnes, goalscoring machine Ian Rush and his look-a-like John Aldridge who were key components of the team's glory years in the 1980s and '90s.
The likes of Phil Neal, Ronnie Whelan, Gary Gillespie and Terry McDermott will also be on show for the team which will be captained by Barnes, who spent much of his formative ball-playing days next door to today's venue while attending St. George's College.
Barnes arrived ahead of his teammates and said: "I don't know if I will play the full game but I am expecting to have fun".
The local legends will feature national technical director in waiting, Carl Brown, Barrington "Cobra" Gaynor, Chris Ziadie, Howard Bell, Paul "Tegat" Davis, Lenworth "Teacher" Hyde, Peter Cargill, Ali McNab and Michael Tulloch.
