Political 'mobile phones'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FOR THE past few months I have been paying much attention to the politics of this country. I have seen the birth of many political parties, or "group of people" formed, ready to take advantage of the "political climate", with wide open mouths to bite a piece of the enticing pie.

Some of these parties are like mobile phones, only usable in parts of Kingston and parts of St. Catherine. Too, some can only be used in parts of St. Mary, while others cover the entire island. However, this can be good for the people economically as they will be given more spending power, although, just for a season by these "phone dealers".

I am wondering if something is wrong with the country or is it the people that are in it. Will these new parties perform surgical work on the minds of the people so as to have the right people to work with or to do the work for them? Sir, it is true that at least three of the newly formed parties have no practical knowledge of the function of existing ministries, maybe theoretically. So what then, taste and buy or buy then taste. Can we at this time afford to be engaged in trial and error?

Sir, it would be like giving a man who has never driven a motor vehicle permission to drive a bus loaded with people from Kingston to Spanish Town or any other destination. Would it be safe to say then that if any of these new parties should be given the power to run this country then unemployment would become history? You need not have any practical experience of the chosen area so as to be employed? Do they at this time employ anyone to work in their establishment who is not knowledgeable of what is required of them?

I am, etc.,

B. EDWARDS
