A JAMAICAN farm worker was killed in Toronto last Thursday when a kiln of tobacco fell on him while he was working on a farm.
The man has been identified as 39-year-old Ned Peart, who is originally from Farmer Avenue, Clarendon. The kiln which fell on him was said to have had about 1,200 pounds of tobacco.
Peart's family can immediately access US$10,000 (approximately $500,000) in compensation to finance his funeral and other personal expenses, head of the overseas employment section of the Ministry of Labour, Barrington Bailey, confirmed on Friday. However, he said that prior to any disbursement, detailed information about the dead man's kins has to be acquired.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
Locally, one man was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine.
The dead man has been identified as 26-year-old Kirk Edwards, of Gordon Wood, Church Pen, Old Harbour in St. Catherine.
The police report that at about 4:30 p.m., Edwards was driving a white Nissan Sunny motor car registered 9895DD along Old Harbour Road. On reaching a section of the road he was involved in a collision with a Toyota Four Runner, which was traveling in the opposite direction. He sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. A passenger in the car received a broken leg and was admitted to hospital in stable condition.
The Old Harbour Police who are investigating say that no one aboard the Toyota Four Runner was injured.
