BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:
AS THE campaign for the next general election heats up, the leaders of the two major political parties turn their focus on the parish of St. Elizabeth this week with political rallies in Black River and Santa Cruz.
Edward Seaga, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader, is schedule to tour the constituencies of St. Elizabeth South West and South East on Wednesday and Thursday before having a mass meeting in Santa Cruz on Thursday night.
Delroy D'Aguilar, the JLP's campaign manager for St. Elizabeth South West, told The Gleaner on Tuesday that the party leader would tour communities including Slipe, Barbary Hall, Black River and Knoxswood. He said Mr. Seaga would explain plans for the development of these communities when the JLP formed the next government.
Prime Minister P.J. Patterson will be presenting on Sunday, September 1, the candidates in the party's Region 5 at a mass meeting in Black River. Among the candidates who will be presented are:
Donald Buchanan, St. Elizabeth South West; Roger Clarke, St. Elizabeth, North East; John Junor, Manchester Central, and Dorothy Miller who will challenge Audley Shaw, the JLP's heavyweight in Manchester North East Manchester.
Also to be presented by People's National Party president P.J. Patterson, are: Lenworth Blake, St. Elizabeth South Eastern; the Rev. Stanley Redwood, St. Elizabeth North Western; Michael Peart, Manchester Southern; and Dean Peart, Manchester North Western.
Mr. Buchanan, chairman of the PNP's Region 5, and Minister of Water and Housing, said there would be several party stalwarts at the meeting to unveil the party's plan to develop Black River and the other major towns in the parish.
