JAMAICA'S OPPONENTS in tomorrow's Red Stripe Bowl cricket semi-final at Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay, Trinidad & Tobago, arrived in the island yesterday in a calm and confident mood.
Also arriving on the same flight were Zone B winners Guyana who will play Barbados in Friday's second semi-final with the winners set to clash in Sunday's final at the same venue.
Trinidad & Tobago's captain Daren Ganga believes tomorrow's match against Jamaica will be competitive and the team that plays the better cricket on the day will advance to the final.
"We are pretty confident. Judging by coming out of the zone in St. Lucia, we have done pretty well despite a narrow loss to Guyana. The guys are peaking at the right time and we are ready to go," Ganga said.
"We just want to get out and have a good practice session before we head down to Kaiser, I think all the guys are ready," he said on the team arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport.
"Every individual is looking forward to taking home the trophy for Trinidad & Tobago and we are going to start by playing a good game on Thursday against Jamaica."
Ganga said both teams batting line-ups looked evenly balanced on paper but said the inclusion of pacers Mervyn Dillon, Marlon Black and Darrel Browne along with legspinner Dinanath Ramnarine, all of whom have played one-day cricket for the West Indies, gave Trinidad the edge in terms of bowling.
Meanwhile, Guyana's Carl Hooper believes his team's semi-final against Barbados will be a tough one, but as long as the Guyanese play good cricket, they will win.
Hooper and Ganga shared the same view that the wickets in St. Lucia were not conducive to stroke play, which was the reasons for the low scores in that zone (B).
However, both captains are anticipating better wicket at Kaiser Sports Club for the semi-finals.
