Get-tough time now!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

COME ON, Prime Minister Patterson, it is get-tough time now, scrap the pretty talk and the cool dude attitude. In the present scheme of things and at the pace the gunmen are moving if the daily murder rate is not halted, very soon there might be no one to listen to your pretty talks.

Scrap the education talk for now as I'm afraid if things continue the way they are at present free education will not be necessary as the school population will either all be murdered or held hostage in their homes by those heartless murderers now on the loose in the land.

Damn Highway 2000, right now, it can stay. What purpose will the highway serve other than to carry the bodies to their final resting place and that is only if they are discovered from septic pits before they diminish to skulls and bones.

Yes! Mr Patterson, you're well known throughout the hemisphere as Mr. Nice Guy, but every coin has another side. Situation dictates that you show your other side, the roughneck, the militant side. It is time to fly the gate and let that other side out.

People going about their private business are being ambushed, kidnapped and murdered. Young girls are being raped and murdered, bodies of young men are constantly found in barrels, others just disappear, it is time to let the dogs out, and to hell with who questions who let them out.

My heart bleeds for my country and its people, but moreso for Grants Pen, my former home. Makes no sense for the political directorate to boast about solid achievement, because, if murders cannot be contained and peace and harmony amongst the citizenry cannot reign, then all else that has been achieved amounts to nothing.

I am, etc.,
