American company gets $million Petrojam contract

PETROJAM HAS awarded a US$2.83 million contract to Chicago Bridge and Iron (CBI), a company based in Chicago, United States, for the repair and construction of tanks at its Kingston and Montego Bay locations.

Cabinet has approved the award of the contract, Colin Campbell, Information Minister, said yesterday at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

"The works are required to correct faults in the tanks, improve safety, improve environmental protection and provide increased storage to meet increases in demand for products," he explained.

The services to be contracted for include:

Construction of a 45,000-barrel oil-storage tank in Montego Bay which will provide additional fuel to the new Jamaica Public Service Co. power plant at Bogue.

The retrofitting of a 20,000-barrel storage tank in Montego Bay.

Construction of an 8,500-barrel Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage sphere at the Kingston Refinery.

Repair to tank No. 102 at the Kingston Refinery.

Repair and modification of tanks Nos. 4,5, 10 and 11 at the refinery.
