Outsiders drown Pools players

By Ainsley Walters, Staff Reporter

NEFTENGA (outside) is produced with a well timed run by jockey Robert Reid to tag long-time leader OWEN TAYLOR at the wire in Saturday's Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes over 1300 metres. NEFTENGA is owned and trained by Richard Azan.

RACING Pools players were battered all day Saturday, leaving one punter to cart off $37,843 after totalling a measly 28 points.

Outsiders, which also took apart form players Friday, the first day of the Digicel racing carnival, landed like crazy on day two.

Players were hit so badly that only eight second prizes of $1351 were declared for 27 points along with 21 third place prizes of $257 from 1080 coupons.

The carryover to Saturday's game stands at a tidy $121,179.

Pools players were slammed in the first two races, cut down by 15-1 shot AIN'T JOKING and 4-1 chance PROMINENT. SIREN restored some calm in the third Pools race at 8-5 but players didn't count on SOPHISTICATED LADY in the fourth.

Returning Saturday after placing second to MEDICAL ALERT out of the straight at a lower level Friday, SOPHISTICATED LADY stormed home at 5-1 under Wesley Henry.

MANILA HEAT turned up the heat at 4-1 in the fifth and then came the Robert Reid show. The veteran lightweight rider produced magnificent finishes aboard outsiders MEDIC ON BOARD (13-1) and NEFTENGA (10-1) to win the sixth and seventh Pools races respectively.

There was no letting up and ST. TULIS GIRL ran on in the eighth Pools race to overhaul another 7-1 shot, UNSURE, at the wire.
