THE EDITOR, Sir:
I ATTENDED a concert at the Constant Spring Golf Club and felt compelled to share my experience. The concert was put on by Life Productions and the main performers were the world-renowned Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Were it not for the excellent performance by the choir, the evening would have been a total disaster. I thoroughly enjoyed their artistry. The organisation and security though, were woefully inadequate for the occasion.
Tickets were sold at three different prices for different sections, general admission, reserved and VIP. Although the seating in the latter two sections were not pre-assigned, patrons were guaranteed, or so we were told. I purchased two tickets for the reserved section.
On arrival at the venue we were greeted by two very long lines and after asking around I was told that one was for general admission and the other for Reserved and VIP. Once we got through the main gates one wondered what was the point of the distinction in the two lines as all the patrons then merged to go to their respective sections guided by ushers. On entering the reserved section at about 5 minutes into show time, I immediately observed that there were no available seats; added to that, individuals from the general admission section were seen with chairs atop their heads crossing the barrier and running into the reserved section.
After voicing my displeasure to the unfortunate ushers, who were obviously unprepared for what was unfolding before them, I was given the option to upgrade my tickets to VIP by paying the difference in cost. I along with several others decided to take up this offer. Incidentally, a meal was promised to VIP patrons....this never materialised!
As the show was winding down, I decided to leave early to avoid the rush. Why did I bother? I was stuck in my car in the driveway of the Immaculate High School for one hour without moving. There was no preparation made to have parking attendants/security/police to assist the drivers out of the overcrowded parking facility. It was only after several drivers themselves got out and assisted that the traffic was able to move out of the lot. Whoever you are kind Sirs and Ladies, thank you.
To Life Productions, I am at a loss for words to express my utter dissatisfaction and displeasure at your efforts (or lack thereof) at staging an event such as this.
I am etc.,
CAROLINE L. BECKFORD
