Vere Johns deserves to be remembered

THE EDITOR, Sir:

KINDLY ALLOW me to express my opinion about 'forgotten' Vere Johns.

WE HAD and still have international singers and performers all over the world. Yet, at no time, when we boast of our music do we give Vere Johns any tribute. This man, with 'Opportunity Knocks' which he took from theatre to theatre was the foundation of what is being enjoyed, yet his name has never been mentioned.

We forget this man who put our greats of yesteryear and some of our present on a platform for the first time.

I think it's time we give this man the recognition he deserves for his works, and not just something jotted in a corner of a printed press, but a day or more of enlightening so that our middle-aged and young people can learn of this man's work.

I am, etc.,
