PLEASE ALLOW me space in your paper to express my despair, in regards to the violent nature that seems to be taking control of the people of this country. The barbaric manner in which that JUTC bus driver was killed on Mountain View Avenue affected me badly. It is with great trepidation that I turn on my television to watch the evening news. Can't we see what this is doing to the way we are seen by the outside world? Is it that we Jamaicans like being in the media so much that it doesn't matter how we get there?
Jamaican people, we need to wake up! Look at what we are doing to this beautiful island of ours. We need to ask ourselves where is all this bad press putting us, when we put fear in the hearts of potential investors and tourists.
We need to ask ourselves what do we want from life? What can I do to make this country a safe place for my children to grow up and be proud to be Jamaicans? We as citizens of this country have the power; it doesn't matter if we are rich or poor, from uptown or downtown. We have the power to bring about positive change to this nation. All we need to do is to reach inside to the deep recesses of our minds and bring that power to the forefront, and then we can use it in positive ways to bring success to our lives and to our country.
