Muriel Carnegie first female Custos

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN AN article written by Rev. Devon Dick, on Tuesday August 11, 2002. He states that "the Reverend the Honourable Carmen Stewart - Custos of St. Andrew was the first female Custos". That is not so.

The first female Custos was the Honourable Mrs. Muriel Carnegie for the Parish of Westmoreland. She was the wife of Dr. Carnegie of Savanna-la-mar. I think it was in the 1960s.

This information is intended to set the record straight.

I am, etc.,

B. P. HARRIS, J.P.

Retired. Supt. of Police
