Prominent race-horse owner shot dead

THE SHOOTING death of Carl Duncan, 46, a prominent race-horse owner, on Central Road, Kingston, on Tuesday afternoon, was a contract killing, the police say.

A senior detective said the killers went directly for him. A report from the Constabulary Communication Network said that two men rode past on a motorcycle then turned back immediately. The motorcycle stopped and the pillion rider got off, walked up to Mr. Duncan, said something abusive, then opened fire at him.

Police said he died while undergoing treatment at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Mona.

According to the police, Mr. Duncan had been sitting in the back of a pick-up truck, talking with a prominent race-horse trainer and another man, when he was shot.

Ice and Kaydene are two of the successful horses Mr. Duncan owned.
