THE EDITOR Sir:
IT HAS become an angry and distressing area of our lives. While we are able to control other bills in our lives, supermarket, water, telephone, it is nigh impossible to even attempt to do so when it comes to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo).
I am in receipt of my last bill dated August 23, 2002. This reflects an increase in consumption of 41 per cent over the previous. How is this possible? I cannot fathom and I must confess I am not brave enough to try and discuss this with the Customer Service Department as their response is equally unfathomable or just plain dumb.
As I see it, in summer the lights are on for shorter periods, and the hot water heater is also only on for half an hour in the mornings and not in the evenings as it is just too hot otherwise, and no, I do not have an air-conditioner unit or children playing computer games.
How than can I get an increase of 41 per cent in usage?
All my lights are fluorescent. When we used to get bills every two months my usage was approximately 150 kWh every two months. When the bills started coming monthly it became 150 kWh every month. There used to be three persons in our household plus a household helper. That number is now one and no helper. And now the usage is 280+ kWh.
It just does not add up. There is less TV, no video, less ironing, less everything. I am not the only one complaining, everyone I have spoken to has similar grouses.
When this is added to the intermittent service, the whole affair seems to border on gross dishonesty.
I am, etc.,
