THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WRITE to commend Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd. and their staff for the excellent service that I received on Saturday September 7, 2002. On that afternoon I came home, only to discover that I had no electricity. I went to sleep thinking that this was the usual power. Upon waking I realised that I was the only one without electricity, I called an electrician, who inspected the meter and discovered that no electricity was coming to the house and that the wire had probably been torn from the post.
I called JPS at approximately 8 p.m. and reported the matter to a customer service representative at their emergency number, really not expecting to get any service until the next day or even later because of the fact that I was calling from an inner-city community. At approximately 9:45 p.m. I received a call from JPSCo saying that the service men were coming and that I should look out for them. I was happy when they arrived, they introduced themselves and proceeded to make their checks, discovering that the line had really been disconnected from the post which was covered with a huge plum tree with thorns which I have at the front of the house and which covers the wires between the house and the light post.
The men explained that they were from an emergency response unit which was not responsible for the bushing of trees but they nevertheless, proceeded, to climb the post and chopped away the problematic branches. They found the burnt off wires, did the necessary repairs and restored my electricity and in addition fixed a street light on the same pole that was being hampered by the same tree for months. I was really surprised at the exceedingly excellent customer service that I received and to this I say," job well done!" Continue the good work JPSCo.
I am etc.,
