Do not dismiss free education

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS my belief that Jamaica can well afford free education. Millions of tax dollars have been wasted by this government, which would have been much better served by taking many youths off the streets and educating them.

I am disappointed to read and hear of people dismissing free education. It seems that they are content to throw their hands up in the air and do nothing. If it is made a priority, it will happen. I know that it would be a great challenge to any government willing to take to up this mantle and proper controls would need to be implemented to prevent waste.

However, Jamaica would benefit in the long run, as we would be unlocking the boundless potential of the next generation. My tax, I would gladly pay, if I knew that it would be contributed towards a child that would ordinarily be on the street cleaning car windscreens during school time.

I am etc.,
