Bring back the good music

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MY LOVE of music goes back to my childhood (gramophone days) when my parents encouraged me to listen to the likes of Richard Tauber, Jan Peerce, Nat King Cole, Jo Stafford, and the then popular bands "Wayne King", and "Guy Lombardo".

Music changes with the times, and from the 1950's to the present, the variety presented to an eager and avid listener to phenomenal.

At present, I settle for the more contemporary middle of the road type music, that is, I enjoy listening to a Joe Cocker, Elton John, Natalie Cole, Jimmy Cliff, and of course most other local and foreign artistes and bands (too numerous to mention) of the fifties and sixties popularly called the "Oldies".

Power 106 in my opinion aired this variety of music to the Jamaican public more than any other local radio station. However, to my dismay this is no longer so. After not hearing their usual presentation, I called the station to find out what was happening, only to be told that the music format has been changed.

The question is "why?" Is there any other radio station that I or any other person of like thinking can tune in and again listen to the music that was pleasurable to us?

I am, etc.,
