SCOTT'S PASS Nyahbinghi Centre in Clarendon, Jamaica was the venue for a historic collective reasoning of Rastafari mansions and organisations on August 31.
The gathering was convened by the Ethiopian Peace Foundation (EPF) for reasoning on plans for the visit of H.I.M. Zere Yacob Asfa Wossen Amha Selassie I, the 227th descendant of the Solomonic Throne of Ethiopia, grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie I.
The meeting was a direct response to the appeal by H.I.M., Executive Director of the EPF, for Rastafari and other well-wishers to support The EPF's benefit dinner/dance and musical odyssey concert, key engagements on His schedule.
Rastafarians present included members of The Theocracy Reign Nyahbinghi Order, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Haile Selassie I Rastafari Centralising Organisation, the First Dreaded Order of the Nyahbinghi, the Ethiopian Salvation Union, the Ethiopian African Theocracy Union, the African Liberators Unity, the Rastafari Alliance Movement, the Twelve Tribes of Israel, the Bobo Shanti Order, 100 Drums as well as other interested parties. All attendants demonstrated their enthusiasm for this unprecedented call for unity.
The dinner and dance, to be hosted by H.I.M. Zere Yacob Asfa Wossen, will be held on Friday, November 1, at the Chinese Benevolent Association, 176 Old Hope Road, followed by a stage show featuring popular reggae artistes at the Caymanas Polo Club Grounds on Saturday November 2.
The Ethiopian Peace Foundation Limited, incorporated in the United Kingdom on November 10, 2000, and officially launched in Manchester, England, on July 20, 2002 was established to address the repatriation efforts of Rastafarians and Ethiopians in the African Diaspora, and to initiate and support development projects in Ethiopia and Africa.
This unified effort is a reflection of the spirit of co-operation exemplified by the Jamaican Rastafarian Community in Shashemane, Ethiopia.
