Bunny Wailer to perform at Tosh's 'tribute'

By Adrian Frater, Staff Reporter

Reggae legend Bunny Wailer will be the headline act at Tribute to Peter Tosh.

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE ANNUAL 'Tribute to Peter Tosh Concert', one of the premier events on the entertainment calendar in western Jamaica, will have a special element this year when it unfolds at Central Park, in Negril, on Saturday, October 19. The star-studded package will be headlined by reggae's living legend, the incomparable Bunny Wailer.

"I am happy and proud that we have managed to secure the services of such a revered musician as Bunny Wailer this year," said businessman Worrell King, the chief executive officer of King of Kings Promotion, the promoters of the event. "Bunny and Peter (Tosh) were both members of the original Wailers and their musical legacy basically has the same foundation."

In addition to Bunny Wailer, the package also includes Tosh's gifted musician son Andrew (Tosh), who was one of the star performers last year. Bob Andy, Everton Blender, Edi Fitzroy and Nadine Sutherland complete the package, which features only roots/culture artistes.

"We are expecting that other artistes who respect the principles that Tosh lived by to join the package," said King, who has been the main principal behind the staging of the 'one night' show, staged annual in tribute to Tosh, who was murdered by an old associate on the night of September 11, 1987."

Like last year, King said 'tribute' would not be entirely musical, as a symposium will be held at the University of the West Indies on Saturday, October 12. According to him, while some people are familiar with Tosh's music, they are not fully aware of the many guiding principles of his life, which made him a friend of oppressed people all over the world.

"Last year we had a beautiful symposium at which noted Tosh's fans such as Finance Minister Omar Davis spoke glowingly about the impact of his music," said King. "This time around, the symposium will feature presentation by managers and musicians who have worked with Tosh in his climb to the top echelon of reggae music." The combined group of musician and manager, who will speak at the symposium, includes the likes of Copeland Forbes and Herbert Miller on the management side and Sly Dunbar, Steve Golding and Mickey Chung on the musicians side.

"Visitors always seem to enjoy visiting Tosh's family home and they will be welcome to do that again this year," said King. "Peter (Tosh) always seems to enjoy spending time in Belmont because it is usually so peaceful. He has written a number of songs while visiting with his family."

In addition to getting a chance to meet Tosh's family, those persons who choose to visit the family estate will get a chance to see the initial stages in the development of the Peter Tosh Theme Park, which is expected to feature a library, a museum of Tosh's work, a gift shop, which will offer local crafts and a mini-medical facility.
