Motor racing on public Road continues!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

DESPITE THE public attention, and the media coverage, one would have imagined that the racing along Old Hope Road would be a thing of the past. But not so. These guys continue to show disregard for the law, and total contempt for the police. I am beginning to wonder if it is just contempt for the police or is it just exposing police incompetence at handling the situation. I refuse to think so.

Is it pointless to complain because those in authority cannot or will not do anything about this situation? I wonder why? Is it because these guys are sons of prominent Jamaicans with strong connections? Does this give them immunity from the law? Well I don't care; the law must be respected regardless of who you are, and where you are from. If these were guys from the inner city would they be accorded the same privilege? What message is being sent to members of the society when members of the 'Privileged Sons of Jamaica' are allowed to flout the law in this reckless and careless way? Take it from me, it is a dangerous one.

Should I stop complaining, and just accept that this is an index of the decadence of the Jamaican society, the lawlessness, and uncivilised behaviour that is common place? Will the Police, the Commissioner, the Minister of National Security, and the Prime Minister (if necessary), and officials who only pay lip service to the law, step up to the plate, and have this problem hurriedly addressed, before innocent lives suffer as a consequence of inaction.

The time for action is now.

I am, etc.,

C.S.R.

Old Hope Road
