Election date announcement next Sunday


PJ Patterson

PRIME MINISTER P. J. Patterson is expected to announce the date for the upcoming general election during the public session of the annual conference of the People's National Party (PNP) to be held in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew next Sunday.

Speaking last night at a public meeting in Naggo Head, Portmore, St. Catherine, Mr. Patterson said all PNP candidates would be presented during the conference's public session.

The delegates conference is slated for Saturday, September 21 at a venue yet to be announced, but which The Gleaner understands will be at the University of Technology (UTech) in Papine, St. Andrew.

During last night's meeting, which ended about 10 p.m., Mr. Patterson said the party was running a clean campaign. He also said that local government elections would be contested shortly after the general election.

Several candidates contesting the general election in St. Catherine were presented at last night's meeting.
