SEVERAL FORMER employees of the Jamaica Bureau of Standards (JBS) protested in front of the company's offices on Winchester Avenue, Kingston 10 on Friday to highhlight their demands for retroactive payments for salary reclassification and redundancy benefits.
The ex-workers said they were seeking a meeting with executive director, Dr. Omer Thomas, to discuss the non-payment of the benefits.
They were all made redundant in June last year and retroactive payments on reclassified salaries were paid last month to present JBS staff members, but the ex-workers were not included.
They said their frustration was heightened because of the continued failure of Dr. Thomas to meet with them.
"We have been trying for the last three weeks to speak with Dr. Thomas without success," said Ann-marie Campbell-Bell, an ex-JBS compliance inspector. She said an official at the Ministry of Finance told her their benefits must be worked out with Dr. Thomas.
"We are contending that all staff should have been paid at once, because the work period was the same for both of us," said Ingrid Barrett, a former technical specialist in the packaging department. Dr. Thomas was not reached for comment.
