Hazard rebound to beat harbour View

By Charmaine Austin, Staff Reporter

FACING AN uphill task after being beaten in their opening game last week, last year's beaten finalists Hazard bounced back to defeat former champions Harbour View 2-0 in their Wray & Nephew National Premier League football game at the Harbour View mini-stadium yesterday.

It was end-to-end action for much of the first half but the deadlock broke in the 39th minute when a one-two combination between speedy Roen Nelson and Trevino Porter produced a goal after the latter slotted past Harbour View's Leeroy Gray in goal.

When the game resumed Hazard picked up where they left off and in the 51st minute a mix-up in the Harbour View Defence involving Harbour View's Damion Stewart and Gray saw Nelson pouncing on the ball and slotting past the then prostrate goalkeeper.

Harbour View, however, had their fair share of chances.

One of their closest efforts was a Fabian Taylor header in the 72nd minute but it was ruled off-side.

Taylor was not his usual mobile self and was a sitting duck for Tyrone Sawyer's tackles.

"We played a very disciplined game and that contributed a lot to our victory. We took some disciplinary action against some of the players and it did the team a lot of good," said winning coach Lenny Hyde.

"The guys were instructed to step-up their performance today (yesterday) and they did just that," he added.

Said Harbour View's coach D. V. Hayles: "We didn't play with any zest. We were also very flat in mid-field and too slow in our build-up. The season has just started and this gives us a little time to correct our mistakes and improve in every game."
