THE ENTIRE executive of the St James Football Association (St. JFA), including three newcomers, were elected unopposed at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Wednesday evening.
Health Inspector Lennox Wallace is the new General Secretary replacing Dr. Dean Weatherly; Omar Mazelin is the Assistant Secretary replacing Brian Miller while Rohan White is the new Treasurer replacing Horace Giles. None of those replaced sought re-election and had indicated their positions before the elections were held.
In addition to president George Evans, the returning members are Steve Bucknor as first vice-president and Jerry Reid as second vice-president. The Council Members are Anthony Williams, Hopeton Gilchrist, Lilly-May Crawford, Lionel McKenzie and Harold Henry.
Evans announced prior to the elections that this two-year term will be his last. In his address to the delegates, Evans said there had been failures during the previous two terms and while he could not promise there would be none in the next two years said "whatever shortfalls there have been have been done with the best of intentions, without prejudice or malice".
He bemoaned the Board's failure to get a female league under way but added that the youth system they had put in place looks promising and if maintained should go a far way in lifting the standard of football in the parish.
Evans said, however, that he thinks that it should be mandatory that all teams in the Hart Shield Senior League should have at least one team in any of the four youth competitions and said it was a shame that only two senior clubs could have fielded teams this past season.
He encouraged the senior clubs to invest in young players and not to sit back and wait for other coaches to produce players then go and raid their systems.
