WESTERN BUREAU:

BELLEFIELD TOOK over the lead in Zone F of the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday after swamping newcomers Winston Jones 7-0 at the Kirkvine Sports Club.

Kayon Barrett and Clinton Brewery scored two goals each for Bellefield who raced to their third win in a row and assumed the lead in the zone over Manchester High who were held to a 0-0 draw by Porus.

Bellefield are now on nine points, two more than Manchester while Porus are third with four.

There is a three-way tie for first in Zone G after leaders Holmwood Technical and Spalding played to a 1-1 draw and Christiana beat Albert Town 2-1. All three schools are tied on seven points but Dave Anderson-coached Holmwood maintain the lead on goal-difference.

Frome Technical made a winning entry after stopping Green Island 5-0 as Anjay Morris and Adrian Robinson each scored twice and Alphonso Lewis once for the winners who led 3-0 at halftime.

Ruseas' Comprehensive stayed on top of Zone B with a hard fought 1-0 win over Grange Hill in Lucea, thanks to a third-minute goal from Cliffroy Vidal coming from a goalkeeping error.

Meanwhile, four schools will be hoping to extend their winning streaks to three in a row today when the competition continues with 19 matches. Little London in Zone C, Marcus Garvey in Zone D, former champions Munro College in Zone E and Happy Grove in Zone L have won their two previous matches and will be seeking to stay on top of their respective standings.
