THE EDITOR, Sir:
IS IT of little wonder why most younger persons in the society refuse to vote? Over the last eight years both major political parties have proven to be a disappointment to most of us. A barrage of promises to tackle unemployment, crime and education has been spewing steadily from the leadership and hierarchy of these parties, but if they didn't have a plan before, how come they both have grand ideas at election? Is that a million dollar question to which no one knows the answer? I think not.
I think at least the polls have got something right, the fact that it is mostly the younger generation who wish to abstain from voting. It is pointless to vote on promises which are nothing but such.
The question has to be asked why wasn't all this effort made when elections weren't imminent? Have the leaders failed to realise that most of us are no longer a generation of uneducated persons. The ability to reason and rationalise for ourselves makes us no longer dependent on a political hopeful to tell us what is or isn't good for us.
If both parties are so good at governing this country, then their work would have done the campaigning for them, not a bunch of seemingly clueless set of individuals. I am definitely one who will not vote, as from what I have seen so far, their isn't anything to vote for.
I am etc.,
