Dirty talk from a Minister

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ of Mr. Shaw's current argument on the JTB's current fiasco, and it is very normal that he aggressively engages in some debate with the current Tourism Minister responsible for that office. What I cannot understand is why the Minister, Portia Simpson Miller chose the type of language she did, to respond to Mr. Shaw, and why she thinks all of Jamaica wants to hear how dirty she can speak.

Her manner and style is, in my opinion, unbecoming of anyone holding public office, and what are the consequences of "don't trouble this girl"? It is behaviour like this that I find revolting, and not at all typical of the Jamaica I grew up in. I am cognisant of the differences in social layers in all societies, which may impact speech and behaviour, but to think of scoring points, and beating one's chest at that, by perpetuating that sort of disrespectful attitude, sinks Jamaica deeper into a dismal future where only Jamaicans will be at a loss.

And to think they are contemplating leadership change in both political parties? These are the alternatives? Help..?

I am etc.,
